Did you know that one out of every five Oregonians lives with some degree of food insecurity? Hunger hurts children, families, seniors, veterans, and the disabled. The Oregon Food Bank is working to end hunger in Oregon, and we want to help. That's why we’re starting what we hope will be an annual tradition, bringing together some amazing bands to help feed our hungry neighbors this holiday season and throughout the year. And just as food nourishes the body, music nourishes the soul—something all of us could use. So please join us on Saturday, December 17th at the Fixin' To, in the hip and happening St. Johns neighborhood, to hear some great music and contribute to a worthy cause.
The evening kicks off at 9:00 PM with the Waysiders, who draw on swing, rock ‘n’ roll, Cajun, and old-time music to deliver a feel-good brand of classic country. We're up at 10:00 to play all the songs you love, a new one or two, and maybe a holiday tune as well. Closing out the night at 11:00 will be Jenny Don't and the Spurs, and you are definitely gonna want to stick around for them. Their vintage country sound is always killer, but they'll be fresh off a European tour and sounding tighter than ever for their first gig on American soil in a while.
This is our first show at the Fixin' To, and we're really happy they're hosting our inaugural Holiday Hoedown. Besides being a bunch of good people, they made sure that their new performance venue was a great space for musicians and listeners--check out these recent write-ups from Willamette Week and Eleven PDX. The club is located at 8218 N Lombard Street in Portland.
Admission to this special night of music is $10, or you can pay $7 if you donate at least one non-perishable food item. Please donate more if you can! A list of the most needed items can be found on the OFB's website here. In addition to the food we collect, we'll be donating the net proceeds from ticket sales too, so there are two ways to contribute! Come on out to get some holiday cheer and do some good for your neighbors as well!
